Book of the Week: Ms. Marvel #1

Ms. Marvel, G. Willow Wilson
Comic book/Fantasy

Sixteen-year-old Kamala Khan is a pretty average teenager. Her parents are way overprotective and strict, she has nothing in common with her brother, and she kind of maybe has a crush on her best friend, Bruno. She’s Pakistani-American and sometimes struggles to balance both cultures. She would much rather write fan fiction than do her homework. So, you know: pretty normal. Until.

One night she sneaks out to go to a party with some of the cool kids, and on her way home something totally bizarre happens: she’s surrounded by a weird mist, sees a vision of the Avengers – yep, the superheroes – and then develops super strength, super healing powers, and the ability to shapeshift!

Kamala starts using her new powers to solve crime and help people who are in trouble – yeah, even the snobby girl from school – but it doesn’t take long before the people around her start noticing that something is up. And when she encounters her first villain – The Inventor – she’ll need the help of her friends, family, and community to defeat him.Ms. Marvel, G. Willow Wilson
